Porto Galinhas beach Brazil

Porto de Galinhas (Port of Chickens Beach) is in our selection the second best beach in Brazil. This spectacular beach changed from a fisherman village to a very popular destination for domestic travelers, that are hypnotized by its beauty and happy about the medium level of infrastructure that the beach has developed.

The history of the beach name is very interesting. In the 19th century, Brazilian government prohibited the slave commerce, which was very common in Recife until then. So, pirates had to create a solution to continue bringing slaves to Brazil avoiding the law, and then they started delivering slaves to other beaches more deserted, like for example Suape and Ipojuca. When the "black ships" (named that was given to the ships that commerce slaves) arrives to the port, to avoid suspicious the code message was "there are new chickens in the beach", where chickens were obviously the slaves; hence, the beach get the name of Port of Chickens Beach.
